The Canadian board seems to be acting up. It's showing that I've got 18794 unread posts there, even though I'm logged in. None of the other boards do that.

Another time warp effect? ;oP

Cheers,
Arthur

Drats, now I'll be up all night trying to catch up.

Looks like VanDrip's latest post may be involved. It shows up as "123 Re: January OCPs " while it's id should have been 18918.

Strange,
Arthur

Either you're special, or George has fixed this, because everything appears normal to me.

Time warps happen very quickly. We are now back to the future. To experience it try this:
Go to the Canadian board and read post #18917 VanDrip.
Then click on "Next".
It will take you to a post that is not even there on the board. Click "next" and you will be back to today. Then look at the board's list of posts to see where you were.

Either you're special, or George has fixed this, because everything appears normal to me.

The problem was only happening when VanDrip's message was the most recent one. As soon as I posted another message, the problem disappeared.

Cheers,
Arthur

It looks like this bug is what we refer to, in technical terms, as a "glitch." Normally that means that the programmer has no clue, and that is half true in this case. The root of the problem is that the message number for http://dripinvesting.org/Boards/Read.asp?MID=97092 is "123," which is incorrect. If that was the last message read, then I calculate the number of messages to be read as the current message number (around 19,000) minus the message number of the last message read, so obviously this creates great confusion. What I actually do when saving your message is to initially store the message number as "123," then when I read the message back, I replace the "123" with the proper message number. In this particular case, for some reason, the message was written to the database, but could not be immediately retrieved. Amusingly, I left a message to myself in the code that the way I was doing things was awkward and needed to be rethought at a later time, so if I get a chance, I'll revisit this portion of the code.

Thanks for pointing this error out.

Cheers -

george
