Hello all, and happy New Year!

I haven't posted in a long time, so I'm glad to see that there is still lots of activity on these boards.

A lot of quarterly Drips, have OCP's in January, so I was curious as to where people were allocating there money this month. I'm having a hard time making up my mind ;).

onarock on 1/2/2009 11:10:32 AM

u haven't post in over 6 months anyway.......doncha luv us anymore?????

i am just sending money to bmo, not sure how much yet, and 200 to bac........i may find something else too......

k

cyclistpaul on 1/2/2009 11:26:59 AM

Good idea to send money for BMO, as I just received over 33 shares for $1000. Won't be sending that much this time, as I will have to trudge down to Computershare for a little tete a tete with a manager (the clerks aren't paid enough to listen to me yell at them) about botching my credit check and refusing my TRP OCP, so I will be doing initial payments on all my Computershare companies which are not already compliant ie Emera, Fortis, Suncor, Telus and TRP. All at once should mean a little less pain for me in the long run.

So, I will be hitting BMO and BNS for at least $250 each, then the minimums or $100 each, whichever is more, for the rest.

Haven't heard boo from the Mellonheads about my IMO initial OCP; haven't even seen my dividend from Encana put through yet. Those guys must really know how to do a holiday, as Computershare had my BMO and BNS up just past midnight on January 1 (a few minutes after December 31), and the Mellonheads still hadn't done it as of this morning. They do use computers, don't they?

Take care, Paul

onarock on 1/2/2009 11:50:54 AM

i like when u bitch paul, gives me a rest.........ha ha......u stay on those mellonheads..........we shall be like ants and wear them down.......we just may have to lose a few of us...........

OperaBob on 1/2/2009 4:06:39 PM

Haven't decided yet.

Probably a bit more to BMO/BNS plus RIOCan.

Got my FAP statement today.

Decided to send a large OCP to it as well as as HR.UN last month. The HR.UN is up over 40% for me.

Today's FAP is up 15% plus it was paying around 17% when I bought it.

Of course I never mention my disasters! ;-)

Zirguy on 1/3/2009 2:39:52 AM

I'm thinking about dipping into my line of credit and dumping $1000 each on BMO & BNS. The yield on them is much higher than the interest on the line of credit.. but who knows...

PGF.UN is also looking good...

dabu on 1/3/2009 10:11:19 AM

I went hard after BMO and BNS. I just can't believe the yields. God help me if they cut the divs...although I think that is unlikely. Anybody have any advice for leveraging (credit line) and writing off the interest??

Rascal on 1/3/2009 5:10:18 PM

I am guessing Buffett does not worry about were the market is tomorrow... Probably does not leverage either (my guess)....

I would agree that Buffett likely does not worry about the market, but I would bet that he uses leverage. I think that it's a great tool in the hand of someone who knows how to use it.

dabu on 1/3/2009 8:38:06 PM

Hey Silentone,

Thanks for the comments. I am only asking the question to see what others are doing. I absolutely agree with what you are saying. I am leveraged with my drips and continue to add to my drip accounts and leverage purchases while writing the interest off against the earnings. It is a running account and I have quite a detailed spreadsheet with the interest running on my credit line for each stock vs what has been borrowed against it. (Does this make sense?) I do have a very long horizon as I am in my mid thirties have a very secure income. But I am looking for income generation upon my retirement. That is where the drips come in. So my comment (thrown out without any framing) was more based around the idea of tracking the interest without running into trouble with the tax man should I get audited. This should probably be another thread mind you.

Arthur on 1/5/2009 11:32:07 AM

For now, my plan for January is to send the followings:
- TransCanada (TRP): $100
- Telus (T.A): $100
- Bank of Montreal (BMO): $100
- 3M (MMM): US$20

TransCanada only accepts new money quarterly, but I expect weakness will continue for a while, thus the small amount.

I also want to avoid too much concentration into energy companies, so I am also sending money in other sectors, so I'm sending small amounts regularly to Telus.

And with the weak bank sector, Bank of Montreal gets some this month. Since the money will be reinvested at this month's end, shares purchased from that OCP will pay out a dividend on February 26.

Finally, 3M is still on automatic monthly withdrawal from my Harris account.

I'm keeping my Canadian OCPs on the small side, since I plan on sending some money down south into my Harris account to fund some more US purchases.

Cheers,
Arthur

onarock on 1/5/2009 11:59:19 AM

Finally, 3M is still on automatic monthly withdrawal from my Harris account.

i know if i could do this for all of my companies, i would........BAC has been getting most of my money by far, cuz this is what i have the energy for........automatic

i still have not written a cheque for bmo,.......has been 5 days......but today is the day........this is what i keep saying anyway.....

k

onarock on 1/5/2009 12:29:31 PM

There....250 to bmo, in a stamped envelope and ready for my hon to take to the mail....... i would have put another company in the same envelope, but the other only other one i am sending money to is cibc mellon ta............

k

VanDrip on 1/5/2009 12:54:17 PM

I was planning on sending all of my OCP money for January to TransCanada, but Rocky won't send me my share!!

;o)

Is it wrong to use these boards to take pot shots at Rocky? Who I know swears up a storm when she sees it, and then laughs her head off. Then probably swears a little more.

Oh well, until somebody bans me or George tells me to stop it, then I'm gonna keep doing it. (Rock, you know I'm not mad....I just like bugging you!!)

You weren't banned but the Gods are angry and your post was sent back in time a year. Rocky has strange powers.

drppingsoprano on 1/5/2009 2:49:38 PM

If by "ta" you mean TransAlta, you just missed the Jan 1 OCP. Next one isn't until Apr 1 (deadline a few days before). Then again, with the way mail works from the rock, if you mail it now it may get there just in time!

onarock on 1/5/2009 3:00:20 PM

i meant the agent, ha, but i had better start sending my cheques.........we don't have a ferry this month, so everything is getting barged in..........no vehicles on or off the rock......we can fly off for 20 bucks tho........

even with the ferry, the mail has been left in rupert a few times......

Ummmm, no. The Canoe is worth just a little more than a TRP share. Nice try though.

what will u have to bug me about when u finally get it???????

Oh I've got stuff, believe me. Or I could move on to Wayneman at that point. I've been building a file of stuff on him for months now.

and did u know u are finally getting a dog???????

Did you know that I live in a small apartment? I've seen a picture of your dog and he's quite big if I recall, he wouldn't like my place. No way outside and work days are 10 hours away from home for me. I can ask around if you're serious though.

Kev

Rocky,
He specializes on the outside, not the inside.

Be careful though about what you say. He is probably quite touchy.

And a little feely.
